The involvement of the Guzder family in the shipping and transportation industry has spanned four generations. Hostilities against Britain had erupted in Abyssinia (present ?day Iraq) and British troops in India were deployed to quell the conflict. My great-great-grandfather, Framji Guzder was entrusted with the entire transport and shipping arrangements of the British campaign supplies by Nusserwanji Tata, the founder of the Tata Empire. After the conflict subsided Framji and his son Sorabji set up a clearing and forwarding agency, which was renamed N.S. Guzder & Co. in 1892. The activities of N.S. Guzder & Co expanded over time. My grandfather, N.S. Guzder, was instrumental in India's introduction to airmail. He handled the customs clearance of the aircraft used for the very first airmail operation in the historic flight of J.R.D. Tata from Karachi to Bombay. During the Second World War the company was heavily involved to moving supplies to support the war effort. In 1945, as the war ended, my father J.N. Guzder, started Air Freight Limited (AFL) air cargo agent in India for Tata Airlines now known as Air India. AFL activities have expanded to include courier/express services in a joint venture with DHL Worldwide, travel and tour services with Carlson Wagon Lit, money transfer with Western Union, project transportation, software development and airport services. Daivam Transport Inc. and its sister company AFT International in the US were established in 1987 to service the North America ?India trade lane. We provide complete freight forwarding and logistics services with offices strategically located in Canada and the US supplemented by our service partners. Between this and AFL's two hundred offices located throughout India, your complete supply chain management and transportation/logistics needs are serviced from door to door.
